I spent a good part of my Saturday afternoon helping my son assemble this Meccano-like gunship helicopter that was gifted to him by one of his aunts. It wasn’t an enjoyable build, I can tell you that. But the process made me philosophise a bit about how much it resembles life.
What the illustrations and instructions tell you to do versus what the end product looks like on the box makes you question a few things, i.e. whether is it correct, whether you’re doing it right, how it’s supposed to be, the impossibility of joining those few parts together, why do you even bother to do it in the first place, etc.
I ended up doing it with what i know can be done, improvising the assembly at a few parts, basically perservering throughout the whole process, enduring a couple of cuts knowing at the end of it, my son is going to enjoy playing it.
So such is life really. It’s not what others make it out to be. There will be times when people will tell you to do so and so. Then, as you’re trying to figure things out, you question yourself whether you’re doing it right or not. You’ll end up doing it however best you know with whatever knowledge and resources you have. You’ll get hurt along the way but at the end of it, you know that you’re doing it for your loved ones. That feeling of joy and happiness you get out of it is the reward.
So in conclusion, don’t buy this Intelligent Assembly Toys Series’ Gunship (No. 486). Retails at Mr. Toy for RM32 (thereabouts).
