Austin Powers 3: Goldmember finally made it to our shores and I never
laughed so hard in a movie so far this year! The in-jokes are priceless!
“Welcome to my submarine lair! I like it! It’s long, hard and full of sea
men!”, “You may be a cunning linguist, but I’m a master debator!”.
That spoof of Jay-Z’s “Hard Knock Life” was absolutely hilarious! Cameo
appearances are also aplenty and the opening sequence was certainly
a big surprise! I was also surprised that the movie actually passed our
censors for the most part (did notice a snip or two there but it wasn’t
more than 3-4 seconds total at most). Either the censors had wisen up
or they really don’t understand the play of words that makes up the
sexual innuendos in the movie ‘cos their English sucks. I’m in the
opinion of the latter.

I really am a dumbass and numbnut. I spent RM48.62 for a regular #3
meal (Chicken McDeluxe) at McDonald’s today. The cashier returned
me RM1.38 change when I handed a RM50 note and I just walked away
from the counter without realizing it until some 3 hours later. See why I
suck when it comes to financial matters, even as simple as this?
Dumbass! Dumbass! Dumbass!

Wedding fever is just about to start in my family. Zamri’s family came
by today and they got the pre-engagement thingy (meminang) going
on so Adik’s gonna get engaged in about three week’s time and from
what’s been discussed between them folks, the actual wedding is not
gonna be too far off. I always thought she’s gonna get married first
before me. Looks like we’re gonna be busy for the next several months.

Y’know what gets me these days when I get on the web to find out
about the latest in computer hardware and stuff? Those fanboy sites
whose writers cringe about how lame a piece of hardware is as
compared to the others just because it performs some 2-3 fps (frames
per second) less. I admire the effort they take to painstakingly conduct
benchmarks after benchmarks to come to that 2-3 fps difference
conclusion but don’t you think it’s taking it just a little bit too much?
Look at it this way, even the average Joe Gamer isn’t that cash laden
to be upgrading his computing gear just about every month to keep up.

Okay, so Tech-Ed
may not be so bad after all. Especially after you’ve won yourself a
spanking new iPaq H3870!
Bwahahahaaa! In yer face!!! I’ve never actually won anything this
expensive in my life ever! And I didn’t win it through a lucky draw
either as I had to actually work for it in a live quiz they had after the
conference this evening. Most of the questions I got were on
Active Directory
and I was able to correctly answer the most number of questions within
60 seconds (though I felt I could have done better). But in the end, I
may just wanna sell it off ‘cos I’ve mentioned it once and I’ll mention it
again, I’m not really a PDA kinda person though I’m tempted to just
crack it open and test drive the thing (I’m keen to get it run Familiar Linux
on it). Right now, it’s still sealed and unopened in its box and all. Just
a quick run through of the specs, as mentioned it’s the
H3870
model that comes with 64MB RAM, Li-ion polymer battery,
has 64K color display AND is Bluetooth equipped! And

I’ll be attending Microsoft Tech-Ed
conference beginning tomorrow. Personally, I don’t quite like attending
conferences like these in this country just because of the crowd and
delegates. I mean, a bunch of “paper MCSEs”,
Software Engineers who only know how to program in Visual Basic,
participants oblivious to calls to put their cellphones on silent mode
during presentations, etc. etc. The presenting speakers are great and
top notch, but the attendees really leave much to be desired.

I’ve got a Playstation joypad hooked up to my machine as a game
controller for a bit since but have never really used it much. Feeling a
bit nostalgic, I installed and fired up Frogger
and Wipeout XL
on my machine. I got those games back when in 1997 when I was still
in Uni. They ran very well on my then Pentium 200 MMX equipped with
a 3DFX Voodoo graphics card. Installing it on my current machine (a
Pentium 3 with a GeForce 3 graphics card) was a different story.
Wipeout XL was too darned fast to play that I had to slow the machine
down! Anyways, it was good fun playing those especially now that I’m
able to do so with a joypad that I’m very comfortable with. I know
they’re like games meant for kids but hey! The label says aged 5 and
above so who am I to argue? Besides, I’m still giving blood by playing
Quake! Heheh!

Windows 2000 Service Pack 3
was just released a couple of days ago and I’ve applied it to my laptop
already the other day. Seems to work fine and from my first
observations, it’s gotten rid of some of those annoying errors you see
in the event logs that has little or no relevance to the well-being of your
machine (“Event ID: 1000 Description: Unable to collect the FTP
performance statistics. The error code returned by the service is data
DWORD 0.” Hello?) Microsoft has decided to include the automatic
Windows Update into SP3 and I’m somewhat uncomfortable with that
hence disabled it right away. If my machine needs to be patched, I’d
rather know myself what I’m patching. I like my machine configured the
way I like it, not any other way.

A quick one to congratulate my second cousin Ayu on her finally tying
