Generasi Kami

This is one of those things that can come out when I hang around at Fuse after yoga (or dinner). I wrote the lyrics with Omar K while the music was done by Audi Mok and Omar. It was a treat to learn that the song was eventually recorded and performed by big names in the local entertainment scene like Dato’ Jalaluddin Hassan, Afdlin Shauki, Faizal Tahir, Juzzthin and Wafiy.

Kenapa Is Like A Love Song

Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer pimping “Kenapa Is Like A Love Song”

This is what you get when you combine “Kenapa” by Shazzy & Lah VE with “Love You Like A Love Song” by Selena Gomez, “Can’t Get You Outta My Head” by Kylie Minogue and “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor together. There’s plenty of “kapak”, corn, cheese and cliches to go around. Its eventual title is actually “Kenapa Is Like A Love Song (That You Can’t Get Out Of Your Head And Survive)”. Which begs the question “Why?”. I suppose ‘cos it’s all the fun to be had making fun of something that some of us have fun making fun of. Careful that you might end up putting it on repeat-peat-peat-peat-peat ;)

Mamma Mia Love Story

Ever since I first heard Taylor Swift’s Love Story, my mind just can’t help going off on ABBA’s Mamma Mia right after the chorus and it’s been bugging me since. I suppose that’s what happens to you when you grow up during ABBA’s era (can somebody say therapy?). So after managing to source for the respective instrumental and acapella tracks, I managed to put this mash together. I used Mamma Mia from Mamma Mia: The Movie Soundtrack sung by Meryl Streep instead for this one. It’s nowhere as epic as John Schmidt‘s Love Story Meets Vida La Vida (which he has since pulled down from his site due to clearance issues) but if you can imagine Taylor Swift and a bunch of pixies tippy-toeing on the meadow in spring to this song in a music video, I think it’s almost there.

Oh, by the way, Taylor, I’m really happy for you and Imma let you finish… but ABBA had the best track of all time!

Tribute To Michael Jackson (1958-2009)

The King of Pop passes on. His music, however, will still live on. There was this remix of “Rock With You” that I worked on for 8TV’s So You Think You Can Dance Malaysia in 2007 that did not get selected for the performances. I thought I’d give it the due exposure here as my tribute to the greatest entertainer of the world whose music I grew up listening to. Rest in peace.

Cantik Like Me

This is a remix of Nikki’s Cantik and Pretty Like Me combined. It’s not a mashup although it samples heavily from the song it was based on as Audi mentioned in his blog entry. It’s also bilingual so it’s guaranteed NOT to get any airplay and like Selamat Tinggal Genie, I’ve also kept to the album’s production rule of not using a crash cymbal at all on this remix.

I had tremendous fun doing this remix. So much so that I got caught playing the air guitar and air drums a couple of times during the making of it. As dorky as it can be, it sure beats hitting keys and drumpads anytime, especially on days when you really need to get it out of your system. Props to Nikki, Audi and Mr. Manager for their guidance and blessings for me to do this.

If you like this remix, go buy Nikki’s sophomore album Hawa, out in stores now where you can hear the tracks in their original state before I mangled them.

Puisi Bu De Bu Ai

I got this one done late last year as I was finishing up “Selamat Tinggal Genie”.  It’s a mashup of Shazzy’s “Lagu Puisi” with Wilber Pan and Xian Zi’s “Bu De Bu Ai”.  I initially released it among my friends on Facebook first trying to gauge the response before actually releasing it on the interweb in conjunction with the coming Chinese New Year. If anything, I hope the Year of the Ox will help me further my musical bullshitting mangling skills.

Gong Xi Fa Cai everyone!
